We provide over 600 meals every week, over two nights. To do it, we rely on the generosity of volunteers, financial contributors, and of course, food donors. We also partner with a wide range of local organisations who can further support our clients.

Food provision is supervised by our resident chef and coordinator, as well as team members specifically trained in food preparation. We follow rigorous health, safety, and hygiene systems to ensure that our clients are not only fed, but stay healthy. Food is packed into meal-sized containers and delivered hot, via our vans, to individual houses where families can eat in the comfort and dignity of their own homes. When appropriate, we stay and chat with families to build relationships, and find that our friendships have grown organically over time across Broome.

The Logistics.

Food is prepared from 12:00pm – 4:00pm on Friday and Saturday at St Marys College Hospitality Training Centre with the Coordinator or Kitchen Manager and two-to-three volunteers.

Leaving from Macas Kitchen on Saville St in Broome, meals are delivered to over 100 homes from 4:30pm – 7:00pm by two or three delivery teams. Each team has two or three volunteers per car.

Kid’s Cooking Classes.

We’re passionate about raising up little chefs in our community. Our cooking classes have been running since 2017. Since then, we’ve had 39 students complete the program, with 90% of them asking if they can come back again next term! As students progress through the 10-week course, we see a notable difference in their confidence and self-esteem. We’re lucky to have volunteers committed to teaching children how to cook safely, create delicious food, and build lifelong skills. We’d love you to join us in this capacity.

“It’s fun and I want to keep cooking. The teachers are awesome.”

Become a Lifesaver. Literally.

Our volunteers literally save lives by changing lives — you can too.

We welcome new volunteers or contributions in any capacity. You can help with food prep, delivery, fundraising, set up a monthly direct debit, or make a once-off financial donation. We’re always on the lookout for practical skills to keep us moving. For example, we’d love a mechanic to service our vans, a social media buff to manage our Facebook page, a wordsmith to write media releases, a business development specialist, or any other skills you may have.

If you’re keen to come on-board or would like to form a professional partnership with your business or organisation, please get in touch. We’re currently seeking time, expertise, and resources in:

  • Website maintenance.
  • Social media management.
  • Business development and management.
  • Marketing
  • Logistics and coordination.
  • Any other skillsets you have!

You’ll become an integral part of the FTLC team making a difference to the food security of hundreds of young lives every week, right here in Broome.
